Paulo Costa is an associate professor of the Nuclear Physics Department of the Institute of Physics, University of São Paulo in Brazil.

He is also professor of the Medical Physics Residence Program of the Department of Radiology and Oncology of the Medical School of the University of São Paulo (USP). In September 2023 he joint AXTI lab as guest researcher supported by FAPESP. He obtained his Ph.D. in Nuclear Technology from the University of São Paulo performing research in the area of x-ray spectroscopy applied to shielding materials. His main areas of research are CT dosimetry, radiation physics, design and characterization tissue-equivalent materials, x-ray spectrometry using semiconductors detectors, and phantom design. Dr. Costa was President of the Brazilian Association of Medical Physics and he is member of the Medical Physics Committee of the Brazilian Physics Society. He is also member of the AAPM Global Research and Scientific Innovation Committee and of the AAPM Hispanic and Latin-x Medical Physics Subcommittee.
